This tool is a handy image converter and editor that allows you to work with multiple image files at once, in batches. The main function of the program is converting image files into any of the multiple output formats supported, however, you can also use it to rotate, flip and resize your images, and to add text/image watermarks to them. All within a simple and intuitive user interface.
Pixillion Image Converter is characterized by the great number of image formats it supports, both for the input and for the output. The program allows you to add any number of source files in a wide variety of formats including the well-known JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, WMF, PNG, JP2, PSD, AI, ICO and EMF, but also in many less-known ones such as DCM (DICOM), DNG (Digital Negative), MOS (Leaf Digital Photograph), MPO (Multi-Picture Format) and PGF (Progressive Graphics File). You can even add source files in many raw camera formats belonging to brands such as Epson, Canon, Fujifilm, Kodak, Minolta, Pentax, Panasonic, Olympus, Nikon, Samsung and Sony, among others. On top of that, the tool also supports source files in many document formats such as DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, PDF, ODT, HTML, RTF, CSV, XML and even plain text (TXT).
As for the output, the set of supported formats is much more modest, including 21 options that will surely fit the needs of the vast majority of users. You can also adjust some basic parameters according to your selected output format, like the general quality for JPEG. Then you are allowed to specify the output folder (the same as the source file(s), by default), and now you can click on the "Convert" button to start the conversion process. By the way, the program provides very good conversion speed, being you able to convert hundreds of images in just a few seconds.
The image editing functions take place on a separate window where you can select which effects to apply and configure their required parameters. For example, you can resize your images by percentage or by fixed dimensions, and add text watermarks by specifying the text and its font, size, orientation, color and background color. Finally, you can also create a combination of multiple effects for your images, but they will be applied to all the images in your source list, so that you cannot apply them individually.
All in all, Pixillion Image Converter is a powerful software tool that converts images and photos among a really wide variety of formats. It also allows you to apply some basic editing functions to your images, also in batches. However, if you plan to modify your source images in more advanced ways, you will probably want to keep looking for a more advanced tool. Another aspect I don't like about this app is that its toolbar includes various shortcuts that automatically start downloading other programs published by NCH Software, without even a warning.
